In this year’s junior tournament I decided to separate the juniors into three skill levels rather than by age and gender.

In the top level we had some of the top juniors in Julian Drobetsky, Matt Aussel, Ken Filgiano, John Lamont and Reuben Deylewski. After the first few matches it was going to come down to Julian, Matt and Ken. Matt had the first big win in an important match against Ken, winning 3-0. Then Ken still with a chance, to finish first or second took on Julian. After winning the first game Julian came back to win the following three and take the match in four.

The final was set up between Julian and Matt to see who would be the BIG DOG. Julian after being upset by Matt here in November did not let it repeat and took the match in three, and the official BIG DOG status.

In the second level, two Hudson boys made the semi, Chris Dufour and Seb Boudreau. Seb was the first seed, but both coming from Hudson, I’m sure Chris had some secrets up his sleeve and took the match, claiming the first spot in the final. In the other semi, there was a Hudson gal Brigitte Tousignant and Geordie Henderson. Though seeded second Geordie was stronger and kept it from being an all Hudson final. The final was a real battle and with a majority Hudson crowd, there were some controversial cheering. However everyone settled and in the end it was Geordie that came out ahead to win the division 2 title.
‘The Consolation’ had Sanctuaire’s own Jessie Hornstein against Mathew Diab. Both in their first Junior tournament Jessie was able to capture the consolation title.

‘The Bin’ had the youngest player David Baillgeron, and another Sanctuaire player Alex Weiner in the final. David had a pretty tough tournament, but was able to pull out a victory to take the title.

The third division saw Fred Casgrain beat Miguel Waxman for the first place in the final. And Shannon Conway only take out Gabe Jalbert in 5 to claim the other spot. In the final Fred was motivated and took the match and the division 3 title.
The Consolation had two up and comers in the final, Sebastien Bouclay and Thomas Sinclair. Sebastien had played well through out the tournament but it was Thomas that came out to win the consolation.
The Bin had two best buds/training partners going head to head. Kaeline Corrigan and Cassidy Smith. Never easy when you have to play your friend, and this was no different. Cassidy did manage to take the match, and after some tears, words of encouragement, I believe they are back training with each other.

It was great fun! Thanks to all the parents who drove everyone out, and Ben for your help! My side kick Lionel. We’ll do it again next year!
